Hello and welcome!
I'm Dexter (he/they), a Southeast Asian writer based in Singapore who turns to the written word to make sense of this messy, acrimonious world. I go by the alias @ambi_dexter_writes to express my thoughts.
I’m currently an undergraduate at Nanyang Technological University, majoring in Linguistics and English Literature. My research interests at the moment are in the languages, literatures and cultures of present-day Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Formally trained in communications, I am a freelance corporate writer and cultural observer seeking opportunities to expand my writing capabilities. My by-lines have been featured on The UrbanWire and NTU Exposure while I have produced marketing content for Ethos Books and other grassroots oragnisation. I am also a video producer and editor who has worked with clients like the Singapore Book Council and most recently produced a talk show series, *Speak to the Manager,* to spotlight the works of budding filmmakers and film industry partners.
Asides from media work, I also dabble with creative writing on the side. I self-published a zine at a local art exhibition in late 2022 and my personal essay, The Time My Grandmother Mistook Me For Her Husband, found its home at the inaugural issue of Pandan Weekly in 2024.
Got a project in mind you’d like to collaborate on? Get in touch and I’ll get back to you to see how we can come together to bring your project to fruition.
